About Us

The Foundation of Astronomical Studies and Exploration, was founded on the evening of 09th of October, 2009 in the scenic setting of Ranabima Royal College, Kandy. It was the brainchild of Lasni Buddhibhashika to form and implement a society dedicated to astronomy and the love of astronomy where all – from the passionate to the mildly curious, to engage themselves in this wonderful field of study and to build a platform to share each other`s knowledge and experience. It`s a sad thing indeed that many students actually give up this study upon leaving school, making the knowledge and experience that they gained during their formative years in the subject to be lost and be obsolescent. Therefore it was a timely need to retain all interested and to take-in all newcomers, while ensuring a wealth of knowledge, experience and the replenishment of intellectual needs. A great need was felt by the members to invest and share these aspects and also to lend a helping hand to school astronomical societies, while working to actually have many more schools involved. Let us call it an initiative to inspire intelligence. All matters were arranged and on that glorious evening a new streak of illumination, a new path of knowledge – seeking was formed. Groundbreaking as was the first ever in the Central Province. We especially take notice and express our gratitude to the Master-in-charge of RRCKAS (Ranabima Royal College Kandy Astronomical Society) and Tharaka for making this possible, for without them the inaugural meeting would have been an impossibility. We also wish to thank The Principal, Kingswood College, Kandy for all the support extended and Ishan for his wonderful co-ordination of everything that mattered. Please join us – all of you with a passion.

Foundation of Astronomical Studies and Exploration (FASE) was born with the scope of promoting and enhancing the Astronomy among the school students and public in Sri Lanka. Keeping that aim in mind, we are prone to conduct any Activity such as Astronomical nights, Public events, Lectures, Seminars, Competitions etc.
